Oscar Wilde’s The Selfish Giant. A new Folk Opera by Guy Chambers

The Selfish Giant has a beautiful garden, but he won’t let any of the children play in it. Winter comes and never leaves. The Giant looks over his garden from his tall window. What will he do?

Don’t miss this limited run of a new folk opera, adapted from Oscar Wilde’s classic children’s story by three-time BRIT and Ivor Novello award-winning composer, Guy Chambers, who has written had No. 1 songs with Robbie Williams including Angels, Feel and Let Me Entertain You.

The Selfish Giant is produced by former Shakespeare’s Globe artistic director Dominic Dromgoole’s production company Classic Spring and is directed by Bill Buckhurst - whose Pie and Mash shop Sweeney Todd is currently playing on Broadway. Designed by Simon Kenny (Sweeney Todd) and choreographed by Imogen Knight (Amadeus), the cast includes Jeff Nicholson as the Giant (Sweeney Todd, ENO; Urinetown, Apollo Theatre), and Scott Sutcliffe (The Book of Mormon, Thoroughly Modern Millie), Jacob Fisher (Eugenius!, The Addams Family) and Olly Dobson (Bat Out of Hell, Matilda) as Boy. Natasha Cottriall and Laura Sillett narrate, with Laila Zaidi as Hail; Rose Shalloo as Charlie; and Izuka Hoyle as Little Boy.

The cast are joined on stage by a large band of extraordinary musicians (including Guy) in a unique concert-staging that will transport audiences young and old to a magical world through music.

The Selfish Giant has just finished a run at the Royal & Derngate Theatre, Northampton, and will now head to the Vaudeville Theatre, London from the 10-14th April. Purchase tickets for this show.
